On 1 October, Scotland will fail to meet a deadline set under the UN Aarhus Convention to ensure access to justice on the environment is affordable. Join us for a rally outside the Court of Session, Scotland’s top civil court, to show our anger at the lack of progress and call for action to remove ongoing barriers to justice.
We are calling on the Scottish Government to take urgent action to replace the ‘loser pays’ rule, reduce court costs, and expand legal aid. We will also be highlighting the case for a dedicated Scottish Environment Court.
The rally will feature speeches from community campaigners who have faced unaffordable legal expenses when taking environmental cases to court, and the Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland.
Please bring props and placards explaining why access to justice is important to you. If you can’t make it on the day, you can also highlight the campaign on social media – see our comms pack for inspiration and slogan ideas.
Let’s make our voice stronger together!
