D. Bowers is a member of the Environmental Justice Network, a group of community campaigners trying to hold public bodies and polluters to account. Last year, D was selected to participate in the decision-making panel for the Independent Human Rights Fund for Scotland, which is informed by lived experiences of human rights and injustice.

“It’s really great to read about D’s experience of being on the decision-making panel for the Independent Human Rights Fund. ERCS was so delighted and humbled to receive one of the first lead-in grants for this award last year. The grant has supported our rights awareness work and free legal advice so that people can understand and exercise their rights to protect the environment and our right to live in a healthy environment.
“D is a member of the Environmental Justice Network – you can watch their 7-minute powerful film highlighting their shared experiences of barriers to accessing justice. This Fund is crucial to support human rights defenders across Scotland and D’s reflections not only highlight the fairness and diligence of the panel, but also the value of bringing human rights defenders from all backgrounds together to learn and find solidarity.”
