Race & the Right to a Healthy Environment: Lived experiences on access to greenspace and healthy food
For the right to a healthy environment to be realised for all Scots, we must listen and respond to the experiences and needs of our diverse communities.
Race & the Right to a Healthy Environment is a participatory research project aiming to establish a benchmark, common understanding and platform to begin to respond to the priorities of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic groups in Scotland. It is led by the Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland in collaboration with The Poverty Alliance, Nourish Scotland, CEMVO Scotland and the University of Glasgow.
In August 2024, we hosted a workshop with 36 participants from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic groups to learn about the barriers to accessing greenspace and healthy and sustainable food. Read the summary of the day.
12 of the participants agreed to be our community partners. This film shares their expertise and recommendations which informed a roundtable event of stakeholders and experts in November 2024.

We thank all our community partners for lending their expertise and thoughtful perspectives. We hope that the voices of our community partners will motivate decision-makers to take the actions needed to ensure equity for our diverse communities.
