The Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland is leaving the social media platform X. From today, we will no longer post on our account and instead invite our supporters to join our newsletter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
We are leaving because X (formerly Twitter) is increasingly allowing users to go unchecked in inciting hatred and racism. This fundamentally contradicts our organisation’s values.
Since 2022, there have been critical changes to what content the platform gives visibility to. We do our very best to be respectful and collaborative in how we communicate, and be evidence-based in what we say. We are uncomfortable with how the platform often channels false news which we believe jeopardise all our aspirations for a fairer, greener and more just society.
X is no longer serving the purpose for which we joined: which was to reach out to our supporters who share our vision of achieving social, environmental and climate justice. Sharing our work with you and hearing from you has become increasingly difficult, especially as the platform has started to prioritise the voice of paying users.
Thank you to all our supporters, colleagues and organisations who have shared their knowledge and expertise for a fairer future, you have given us the strength and confidence to leave X.
Please join us as we continue to share, learn and connect in our other online spaces:
