Parliamentary motion lodged on a human right to a healthy environment

24 February 2021

Following a conversation with Ruth Maguire MSP, Convener of the Equalities and Human Rights Committee in the Scottish Parliament, we are delighted that she has lodged a motion on a human right to a healthy environment (Motion S5M-24212) . We now look forward to meeting with MSPs from all parties.

Motion S5M-24212 acknowledges progress made towards a new statutory human rights framework in Scotland and notes ‘the view that the concept of a Human Right to a Healthy Environment must be central to these developments’.

A motion is a way that MSPs can raise awareness of issues in the Scottish Parliament. If MSPs from three political parties sign up to this motion, it will be eligible for a debate in Parliament. In addition, the increased attention can help build momentum and enable progress in the new parliamentary session. So now it’s important that we encourage as many MSPs as possible to read and support it.

Contact your MSPs and ask them to sign up to Motion S5M-24212. Follow this link to email them.  See our email template if you would like some ideas on what you write.
